The DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub is a joint initiative by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and Centre of Excellence for Green Energy and Sensor Systems (CEGESS), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur supplemented by generous grants from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India and Govt. of West Bengal to establish a state-of-the-art Solar Photovoltaic Hub in the campus.

Objectives

  • To establish DST Solar Photovoltaic Hub at IIEST, Shibpur.
  • To set up an international standard ‘Industry compatible’ state of the art lab facilities for fabrication and characterization of silicon solar cells and modules
  • To help in adaptation of new PV technologies by the industry
  • To upgrade the existing solar PV systems as well as Organic & Perovskite solar cells to develop new type solar PV systems including storage in India
  • To interact with and extend cooperation to solar cell researchers all over India

Achievement

  • Crystalline silicon Al-BSF solar cells with a baseline efficiency of 18-19% on 3”x3”area and 17-18% on 6”x6”area.
  • Enhanced efficiency of Crystalline silicon solar cells over the baseline efficiency with plasmonic nanostructures ( Achieved enhancement of 1.3 % from 14.5% to 15.8 % )
  • Amorphous silicon single junction solar cells with a initial efficiency of 9.5% and stabilized after light induced degradation at 7.7%
  • Amorphous silicon solar cell with nanoparticles and nanostructure incorporation with enhanced efficiency over the baseline efficiency ( Achieved enhancement of 1.5 % from 7.9% to 8.27 % )
