DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub is a joint initiative by Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India and Centre of Excellence for Green Energy and Sensor Systems (CEGESS), Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur to establish a state-of-the-art Solar Photovoltaic Hub in the campus. The photovoltaic technology has emerged as most promising and sustainable technology to meet ever increasing energy demand of modern civilization and thus world-wide research activities are going on for development of this technology. The need to integrate the efforts of scientists and engineers working with different aspects of photovoltaic technology has been the primary motivation for creation of DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub. This hub is the first of its kind in the country to promote research and manpower development in an integrated fashion.

The DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub aims at establishing a state-of-the-art facility of fabrication and characterization of Industry compatible solar cell and solar photovoltaic system, initiating cutting edge research in the different fields of solar energy and providing quality post graduate and doctoral education in Renewable Energy Science and Technology. The research and education at CEGESS is closely associated with industry and several national and international academic institutions of repute with an aim to foster cutting edge research and establish India as a leader in this field. Interests and activities in the center include Industry compatible solar cell design, fabrication and characterization with a special focus on nano materials, solar photovoltaic systems design and development, solar energy storage system and smart microgrid design.
