The
environmental sustainability of the institute depends on minimizing the
reliance on conventional energy sources and maximizing the use of renewable energy.
Ensuring access to clean water, sanitation, and fostering rural development are
also critical aspects. By empowering students to drive meaningful change
through industry-academia collaborations, initiatives like the DST-IIEST Solar
Hub play a pivotal role in promoting environmental sustainability.
Additionally, addressing global warming and reducing the carbon footprint are
integral components of advancing renewable energy solutions.
Aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s
vision of reducing fossil fuel dependence by 2030 and achieving net-zero
emissions by 2070, IIEST Shibpur is striving to meet these milestones ahead of
schedule. Through cutting-edge research in renewable energy and strategic
collaborations with industry leaders, we drive innovation in solar, wind, and
other green technologies, united in our commitment to these transformative
goals.
I am delighted to learn about the
inauguration of the DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub by our Hon’ble Minister of
Education, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal "Nishank." The DST-IIEST Solar PV
Hub is a collaborative initiative between the Department of Science and
Technology, Government of India, and IIEST, Shibpur, a prestigious institution
with a rich legacy of excellence in engineering education in India.
During my visit to the Solar PV Hub at
IIEST, I was highly impressed by the state-of-the-art facilities established
for the fabrication and characterization of high-efficiency silicon solar cells
and modules, utilizing predominantly indigenously manufactured equipment. I am
confident that the DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub will significantly benefit not only
educational and research institutions across India but also the Indian solar
manufacturing industry, aiding their efforts to develop cost-effective,
high-efficiency solar cells and modules. This aligns perfectly with our Hon’ble
Prime Minister’s "Make in India" initiative. I extend my best wishes
for the continued growth and success of the DST-IIEST Solar PV Hub and hope it
will remain a cornerstone of IIEST, Shibpur’s commitment to serving society.
